Amamelia is the musical project of Amelia Berry, a musician and songwriter currently based in Tamaki Makaurau. Amamelia's music combines breaks normally found in Jungle & Drum & Bass with a sugary synthetic pop sensibility.
Influenced by the slew of remixes found on CD singles of the late 90's / early 00's, Sunreturn and Amamelia curated a list of friends and collaborators to rework her acclaimed debut album WOW!.
Today she shares Operator PLZ! (Imugi Remix), the first single from her upcoming album Wow! The 2021 Remixes (out April 30 via Sunreturn).
Many key players in Aotearoa's electronic scenes are present on her upcoming release, breathing new life into Wow!'s grooves and textures.

When asked about how they went about remixing Operator PLZ!, Imugi's Carl Ruwhiu says "All of the tracks on Amamelia's album are super super dope so it was really hard for us to choose which one to remix! I had the idea to speed up Operator PLZ! and give it like a 2-step kinda feel. It was so much fun picking apart all the cool sounds Amelia used in the original track and reimagining it!"
Imugi's Yery Cho says "When we were writing for the remix, we loved the idea of keeping the lyrics in an operator's world. We kept it carefree, cute with references to little technicalities of production."
Amamelia reflects "I actually haven't been able to stop listening to the track since Imugi sent it through. Yeri and Carl bring such movement and brightness to everything they work on, and I don't think I could have asked for more from a remix."
To celebrate the release of Wow! The 2021 Remixes, Amamelia has gathered all of the interested parties to perform at Whammy & Backroom on Saturday May 1st.
The huge line-up includes a mix of live sets and DJing from Amamelia, bb gurl, Big Fat Raro, Citacsy, Dbldbl, Go Nuclear, Imugi, Jack Russell, Liam K. Swiggs, Tei., Trapjaw Kelpie, Alexa Casino as DJ Snakelegs, and Eyeliner providing entertainment via video stream.
