Out on April 16th, independent Artists Scizzorhands and Kevin Posey are proud to be releasing their first full collaborative project Iron Flowerz.
After successful engagement in their previous collaborative works, including songs on each others albums and a single on Base FM’s Turn it Up compilation, Scizzorhands and Posey started entertaining the idea of an EP.
March 2020 was a crazy time for many people. Scizzorhands and Kevin had just started recording a video for Need A Friend and also handed in the master track for Forever, when New Zealand's Government decided to lock down into alert level 4. Kevin, being from Oklahoma, America, had to head home for family business and couldn’t return back to New Zealand to continue working with Scizzorhands. The two got back the idea of releasing an EP but in their unusual environment of the Web.
After many ideas and demos, Scizzorhands and Kevin Posey tracked the EP for an April 16 release, and now you get the first listen. Staggering the EP release we start with Yeah.
Scizzorhands sent Kevin many sketch ideas but this is one that stuck, featuring soulful 70’s style vocals and hard hitting hip-hop drums. Scizzorhands had a righteous statement song in mind, funny enough though he had not actually expressed this to Kevin, he got the same vibe and sent back the righteous verse Scizzorhands had in mind.
After some arrangement and extra spice, Scizzorhands sent the project to Mazbou Q (formally Unchained XL), an advocate for anti-racism and self love. Scizzorhands, Posey and Mazbou quickly agreed it seemed like the most logical step for a statement song.
