Completely produced, mixed & mastered by Adam Tukiri, Son was initially created as a contrast to his previous release Belial which was the last album released under the Dharmarat moniker. The album manifested into something different and ended up meaning more now that he actually has a son who was born in January.
Adam spent most of 2020 creating the album, with a lot of it being made in anticipation of his first child and also some flase allegations circulating about him. Though it sounds like it’s quite dark, Adam says he thinks “it’s the happiest thing he’s ever made”.

“A lot of my past work was really self
destructive, dark and rooted in self-hatred. I wanted to start music from
scratch with my current state of mind. My partner, baby and dog in my little
house in Pukekohe are prominent in my life and I never really felt like I let
it be known in my music strong enough till now. I also had a weird and new kind
of hardship occur in the last few months that I chose to tackle head on and not
hide from because I can’t help but speak my truth through music.
I feature Rizvan who beyond music I admire for being the family man that I am working to become and my cousin Jahnielle who beyond music is one of my favourite people. I wanted to produce the entire thing because I want my son to be able to listen to it one day and know that I created this on my own and he can do anything he sets his mind to. This is also another album with lore in it like He Said; Still Running, but I’ll explain all that deep stuff in like a year.”
Adam Tukiri is a rapper and producer from South Auckland, who created quite a name for himself under his previous moniker Dharmarat. There is just as much range in his discography as he has projects under his belt, having released 21 projects as Dharmarat, if you include his work with his group Valleyside Boys.
Adam Tukiri is bringing the focus back to the music and letting it speak for itself.
With all the new changes,
Adam has chosen to take a different approach with his releases - no social
media linked to the change and no pre-publicity etc. “I’m so removed from
numbers now, so I’m not going to entertain them as much anymore.” Adam
is still looking to perform and do some publicity but without the pressure of
social media or trying to “blow-up”.
