Tamaki Makaurau-based dream pop band Phoebe Rings have released their debut EP, Phoebe Rings via Bandcamp.
Self-recorded and independently released, the EP was mixed by Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Purple Pilgrims, Merk), and mastered by Jonathan Pearce (The Beths, Aldous Harding, Anthonie Tonnon).
The band is fronted by Crystal Choi (vox, synthesisers), who is joined by Alex Freer (drums), Benjamin Locke (bass), and Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent (guitar and synthesisers).
Phoebe Rings formed in 2019 and played their first major gig opening for The Beths at their sold out Powerstation show on 11 July 2020, just before Auckland entered its second Covid lockdown.
Ben also performs as Sea Views, Alex also performs as A.C. Freazy, and with Tiny Ruins, and Bub, Simeon also performs under the moniker Lucky Boy, and Crystal has performed and toured with the likes of Chelsea Jade, Princess Chelsea and Jonathan Bree.
The band have just completed a nationwide tour opening for 2021 APRA Silver Scroll Award nominees Lips.
They will be performing an EP release show on Friday 19 August at Basement Theatre. It will be an intimate one-off show with an expanded line-up, featuring a live string section and harpist. Tickets available here.
Phoebe Rings has received funding support from NZ on Air. It will be released to Spotify on 20 August.
