With an unmistakable, jaw dropping voice that stops you in your tracks, Nganeko’s new single Facade deviates slightly from the R&B, soul vibe she’s become synonymous with, through her unofficial releases on Soundcloud. “It doesn’t share the same energy as any of my other songs, which I adore, because of its meaning,” she says. “It’s a pop song, for sure.”
“The lyrics to Facade make this song sound like a toxic love story between two humans. But truly, it’s about the relationship I have with my own inner demons and finally noticing; identifying the problem and telling them to gap it. Forever!”
The song comes with an equally powerful video, supported by NZ On Air and directed and filmed by Auckland-based Jeremy Cole. “His concept was to have a doll's house, and when I look into it, I see me. It captures that part of me that struggles to do what I want because of self doubt.”

Nganeko first started gaining attention by releasing songs on Soundcloud and posting DIY-style videos posted on Instagram. Her lo-fi bedroom releases led to her featuring on tracks by some of the hottest names in New Zealand music, including Church & AP’s War Outside and Troy Kingi’s First Take Strut.
In September 2020, she released her debut single, Serious. The single debuted at #2 in the NZ Hot Charts and #25 in the Hot 40 Singles.
