First Nights (Innovative Leisure, out 27 August 2021) is the latest project from The Arts Foundation Springboard award-winner Arjuna Oakes, in collaboration with co-producing partner Serebii.
Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Arjuna Oakes is based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa (Wellington, New Zealand). Following the release of his debut EP The Watcher in 2019 with a combined 600,000+ Spotify listens, Arjuna released two other projects both to widespread acclaim, 2020’s Recovery Pt.1 and now, First Nights.
First Nights is a collaboration with Wellington musician and producer Serebii a.k.a. Callum Mower, and released by L.A. based record label Innovative Leisure (BADBADNOTGOOD, Hanni El Khatib, etc.). Arjuna and Serebii have known each other since the summer of 2017, and as their friendship grew, so did their collaborative practice with music. The resulting EP is an in-depth musical journey that takes you through feelings of heartbreak, self-discovery and acceptance.
First Nights debuted at #5 on KCRW’s Top 30 Albums chart, and have had extensive plays on BBC6 (thanks to Gilles Peterson and Mary Anne Hobbs) and BBC1xtra.
Arjuna and Serebii are both based in Wellington, and will play selected shows at various festivals and locations over summer 2022 – details to be announced.
