New Zealand pop newcomer, Jason Parker has dropped This Is My Year the latest song from his upcoming, independently released debut EP, How To Be Lonely.
Jason has pop domination firmly in his sights. His larger than life personality, catchy hooks, and camp fashion sense make this Wellington local an exciting new addition to the New Zealand music scene. Audiences were first introduced to Jason on the recent reboot of Popstars where he wowed the panel with his debut single You Rescued Me. Inspired by his time there, he has been working on a follow up ever since.
On This Is My Year, Jason says, “I’m seriously excited to share ‘This Is My Year’ with the world. I wrote it as a secret promise to myself, that things will get better and brighter days are coming - which I think resonates now more than ever. I hope ‘This Is My Year’ inspires people to follow their dreams, or at least dance their demons away for a moment.”
Collaborating with acclaimed kiwi artist Ruby Jones on the cover art and drag royalty Hugo Grrrl on the soon to be released music video the track also caught the attention of rising star Paige, winning him a spot opening for the Wellington leg of her recent tour.
This Is My Year, is the latest glimpse into what will make up Parker’s five track EP How To Be Lonely. The EP will explore his experiences with loneliness, sometimes self-inflicted or overcome but ultimately, the lesson of learning to be comfortable in it.
The up-tempo, nostalgic bop has come just in time to lift spirits this New Zealand summer. Available to stream everywhere now. He’s here, he’s queer and this is his year!
