With pretty and colourful sounds matched with an infectious beat, the Aotearoa-born rapper explores a juxtaposition of childlike emotions and mature storytelling. Saint Lane creates an encapsulating, nostalgic feeling in the music, coupled with clever wordplay crossing into his life as a young adult.
“I wanted something that felt magical; the feeling I got as a kid when I went to Rainbow’s End, the theme park in Auckland’, reflects Lane. “I also talk about a period of my life when I was at university and essentially just went on a two year bender and found myself in a lot of troublesome situations.”
Alongside the release of Rainbows End, is new single, Venom.
"When making Venom, Danny Duke, Chunkyluv and I wanted to make a track that had the grooves of disco, the audio space of contemporary pop and put them into the Hip-hop spectrum,” says Lane.
“I've always been an eclectic artist but I feel like Venom is my most interpolated track. I wanted to make a Daft Punk, Dua Lipa and Migoshybrid, a combination that might not work on paper but I feel like we found an exciting new groove on this."
Venom joins singles Toothbrush and Los Palms on the Rainbows End EP, with Toothbrush garnering support from Mai FM, Niu FM, ZM and Sniffers, as well as solid JJJ support in Australia. The full EP will give a taste of everything, with Lane describing it as an “eclectic project. Each song on the EP has a life of its own.”
Rainbows End EP follows on from Lane’s 2020 EP If I Leave You In The Fire, largely driven by the sudden and unexpected death of Lane's father. Produced by Danny Duke (Lizzo, The Griswolds), Mike Malchicoff (Kids See Ghosts, Hobo Johnson), Dennis Dowlut (Mariah Carey, Set Mo) and Andrew Dawson (Kanye West, Tyler the Creator and Childish Gambino); the EP was released to critical-acclaim as well as support from Billboard, GQ, The Needle Drop, Triple J and NME. The EP has amassed more than a million streams and features the stand-out singles Hickeys and When Did We Grow Up? (with Robbie Miller).
Saint Lane has established himself as a dynamic potency in the Australian and New Zealand music industry. Since his inception, Lane has collaborated with Andrew Dawson (Kanye West’s producer) and Mike Malichicoff (Kids See Ghosts' producer),and locally featured on tracks with Bootleg Rascal, Robbie Miller, and Travy P.
Rainbows End EP will be yet another piece of Saint Lane’s work to leave a lasting impression on his fans and followers.
