Big Day Out organisers have confirmed that reformed rock act Rage Against the Machine will perform at next year's music festival in New Zealand and Australia.
Organisers took the unusual step of announcing one of the festival's headlining acts in advance after tickets to two Rage Against the Machine solo shows in Australia sold out.
"(We) would like to announce that Rage Against the Machine will also appear at the Big Day Out 2008 summer series kicking off in Auckland on January 18," a press release on the Big Day Out website states.
Rumours that Rage would appear at the festival strengthened when the band announced solo dates in Australia earlier this month.
Rage were one of the biggest rock bands of the '90s, hitting it big with a blend of hip-hop, metal and punk. They released four studio albums and are best known for the song Killing in the Name.
They reformed earlier this year after Chris Cornell left Audioslave and the remaining members reunited with singer Zach de la Rocha.
They played their first concert in eight years at the Coachella Festival in America, and have been touring on-and-off ever since.
Rage last played the Big Day Out in 1996, alongside Porno For Pyros, Elastica and The Prodigy.
The first full BDO announcement will be made on October 2.
