Voting for the Vodafone People’s Choice Award at the 2007 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards is reaching a crescendo.
Fans in their thousands have been using their mobile phones to vote for their favourite New Zealand musician or group.
The five finalists for the Vodafone People’s Choice Award are soloist Brooke Fraser and groups Shapeshifter, Black Seeds, Evermore and Opshop.
Voting for the Vodafone People’s Choice Award began on September 17 and closes on October 16.
Vodafone spokesperson Ben Bradley says more than 4,500 votes have been received in the first two weeks of the Vodafone People’s Choice Award.
The award will be presented at the 2007 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards in Auckland on October 18.
Everyone who votes goes in the draw for two great prizes. One lucky punter will win a mega Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards prize pack including ; $1500 Vodafone airtime, a trip for two to the Awards with accommodation at The Langham Hotel, a Nokia mobile phone, CDs of all the finalists plus heaps more!
Another lucky Kiwi gets the chance to be the ‘Vodafone Voice of the People’ – on the night presenting the award together with C4 TV host Jermaine Leef.
Mr Bradley won’t reveal which of the finalists has the front running. “Put it this way; it’s a tight race between the contenders. So if you want your favourite artist to win, you’d better grab your mobile and TXT the artist’s name to 787 as soon as you can.”
He says the high numbers of voters – the awards’ best yet – shows Kiwis across all age groups are increasingly more comfortable using their mobiles to voice their opinions about the things they are passionate about.
“The Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards are proving a big attraction for Kiwi music fans. Of the 4,500 voters, more than 30 per cent have also elected to receive free TXT alert information on the Awards via their Vodafone mobile. Normally the response rate is around five or ten per cent.”
