Here is the latest news and funding decisions from NZ On Air:
Phase Five Impacts
Two of the numerous New Zealand bands making a mark internationally at the moment are Steriogram and Cut Off Your Hands.
Steriogram are currently working their independent album 'This Is Not The Target Market' in the US with the help of A&R Worldwide in Los Angeles and NZ On Air Phase Five International Radio Promo funding. The first single, 'Just Like You', is getting play on 33 commercial stations in the US and charted at #6 on the FMQB Modern Rock Top 25 Singles Chart in July.
Cut Off Your Hands are working their New Recording Artist funded song 'Still Fond' in the UK using a radio promotions company called Scruffy Bird, again with Phase Five funding support.
More Albums
In the first Phase Four Album funding round for 2007/2008, ten albums by local artists as diverse as Anika Moa, Cut Off Your Hands, Salmonella Dub, Die! Die! Die! and Goodnight Nurse have got the nod.
The first single from Anika Moa’s independently-produced but EMI distributed album – a song called 'Dreams In My Head' – is impacting at radio now and in the week of 26 August was the #2 most-added song at radio in New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Scribe is back with his second (Phase Four-funded) album, 'Rhyme Book', and is making radio waves on both sides of the Tasman.
