ORA (Origin Roots Aotearoa) have their eyes firmly set on releasing their first EP album just in time for summer. Light of Music (named after one of their songs) offers diversity, speaks of social issues, and lets people know who we are and what we’re about, according to Eugene Temara (Lead Singer). “It’s been over a year in the making, and we’re a product of the first lockdown in 2020, so we’re excited about our journey and the impact we’ve already made in our short time together”.
ORA have had an extraordinary 2021, releasing two singles that placed in the top 40 hot singles, and their reo Māori single Tuakiritanga sitting in the top 10 te reo Māori singles. Of the top ten songs, ORA were only one of two new artists that sit alongside well-known artists such as Rob Ruha, Stan Walker and Sons of Zion. That’s no easy feat when Aotearoa has seen the largest number of te reo Māori songs released in the last two months from over 30 artists and bands as well.
ORA was also awarded Emerging Artist over 25 at the recent Waiata Māori Awards this year. The team says it’s an honour and acknowledgement of where and what they’re up to right now, “It’s recognising what we love doing” says Eugene. The band put it down to just working hard, perfecting their craft, and really believing in themselves and their music.
Light of Music will be available from 10 December.
