Auckland band Steriogram have inadvertently become the subject of controversy surrounding this year's upcoming New Zealand Music Awards, having seemingly been named as finalists for the new Best Hip-Hop/R&B Award (for their Westie rap-rock anthem 'White Trash') and then been promptly withdrawn by Awards organisers RIANZ, leaving just two finalists in the Hip-Hop/R&B category.
While the band themselves seemed a little surprised by the nomination, confessing to having ticked an extra box or two on the entry form while submitting their song for Best Single and Best Video, there are some in hip-hop circles who have taken things much more seriously, with one longtime New Zealand hip-hopper (who should probably know better) publicly declaring that the "Tui Awards are run by racists"... Steriogram, in the meantime, have their second whatever- genre-they-are single 'Sing The Night Away' out now, accompanied by another excellent video, and have been busily plugging away on an extensive nationwide high schools tour which this week finds them in Christchurch - visit www.steriogram.com for full tour dates.
