Rhythm & Alps is immeasurably proud of its decade-long reign as the ultimate Te Wai o Pounamu New Years party. From when the gates open on December 29th 2021, until the last act finishes in the wee hours of January 1st 2022, Rhythm & Alps will be filled with thousands of happy people for the hottest kiwi summer indulgence in Aotearoa music and celebration.
The three-day festival welcomes 10,000 partygoers and more than 6,000 campers. Just over 40 per cent of the people who attend come from outside the region, helping bring a significant increase in regional spending and a palpable buzz to Wanaka and surrounding areas.
Rhythm & Alps have today announced that Dimension (DJ set), Friction, Culture Shock, Molly And The Chromatics and Carnivorous Plant Society have joined the incredible festival lineup to send it into 2022.
The festival has released the full stage schedule, which sees UK Dnb act and kiwi favourite, Friction will be closing the campground stage on December 29th.
December 30th sees a stacked lineup, not to be missed, featuring festival performances from; L.A.B, Kora, Tali Live, Muroki, Montell 2099, Paige Julia, The Upbeats and just announced the electrifying Molly And The Chromatics.
Newly added Dimension has been handed the keys to ring in the New Year on December 31st, joining Dom Dolla, Shapeshifter, Scribe and P-Money, FILTH, Salmonella Dub featuring Tiki Taane and newly added Carnivorous Plant Society on a phenomenal December 31st party programme!
There have been some changes to the festival lineup due to the ongoing Covid rollout. Festival director Alex Turnball says; "We are really proud and lucky to be able to present this solid, mostly all Kiwi lineup. We have an exceptional team and dedicated artists to help send off 2021. It's another great summer to be supporting kiwi music. Let's take care of each other".
The festival confirmed that they have secured MIQ rooms for Australian act Dom Dolla, while SHY FX & Stamina MC sadly won't be able to perform due to personnel reasons. Harriet Jaxxon, Lenzman, CC: Disco!, Bradley Zero were unsuccessful in obtaining MIQ rooms. Andy C won't be playing due to family commitments. And, Sampa the Great cannot exit South Africa due to all flights out of Africa being cancelled.
As well as a new entry point that will see punters stream in via a bridge over the iconic Cardrona river, the festival has refreshed the stage names for 2021. Sonarchy will replace the infamous Where The Wild Things Are stage, The Lost Cabin gets a complete makeover, and the worlds smallest club The Fridge becomes Boombox.

Last week Aotearoa's biggest New Year's festival, Rhythm & Alps, announced that it is ready to rock this New Year's in orange light under the COVID-19 Protection Framework.
The three-day music and camping festival will throw open the gates on December 29th when punters will stream in via a new bridge over the iconic Cardrona river. Entry into the festival has been powered up with Rhythm & Alps COVID ambassadors and extra customer service to help all attendees enter the site as easily, quickly and safely as possible.
The vaccine passport has been thoroughly worked on over the last few months with Rhythm & Alps and Ticket Fairy providing the most robust platform to ensure the safety of patrons while upholding strong Covid-19 public health compliance.
Festival Director Alex Turnball confirms; "Our ticketing partner has already integrated the new vaccine passport technology. Each festival ticket holder will easily be able to upload their vaccine pass to their Ticket Fairy account. Once verified, this then marks their ticket as valid at the gate for entry.
To do this, all festival attendees must log in prior to arriving at Rhythm & Alps and connect their vaccine passports. The ticket scanning system will show their vaccine status alongside their usual ticket status, without needing to scan both the ticket and the passport separately.
We are confident this is a secure and simple way to apply vaccine passports to festivals and clear instructions will be sent to all customers within the next few days, with ongoing reminders throughout December.”
Vaccination rates in Queenstown and Wanaka are currently over 90% double vaccinated. The Southern DHB, Police, Ministry of Health, Queenstown Lakes District Council have been consulted via a collaborative desktop exercise, and all are confident with Rhythm & Alps management to proceed in an orange traffic light level.
