Following the release of Are You Mine?, emerging Kiwi artist BEXY has dropped her debut EP Wear My Wounds Like Armour, featuring summer-ready anthemic tracks Not The One, Comic Book, and her newest track, I’m Upset.
Named, ‘The Christchurch based indie-pop gem who has begun to uncover her most mature sound yet,’ by Tenner Mag, BEXY has gained over nine million streams on Spotify alone. BEXY’s latest single Are You Mine? received national radio-play last week as ZM’s latest Locals Only feature.
Including four heartbreak belters, BEXY says this EP is about being unafraid to feel it all and celebrate vulnerability.
“I hope when people listen to this EP, they feel both understood by the lyrics, and inspired to dance and sing along at the top of their lungs.”
BEXY says Wear My Wounds Like Armour is so important to her because of the catharsis she experienced piecing the songs together in-studio with fellow musician Ben Malone.
“Being in a studio with Ben Malone is a crazy experience. It's almost magical. We have similar brains and love experimenting. We get completely lost in our own world.
“When we write, we get to know our fears and anxieties and face them head on. The EP was created so organically. There were no expectations or pressure. Just healing.”
Produced by Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s Will McGillivray, Wear My Wounds Like Armour explores confrontingly honest lyricism, with BEXY finding beauty in the real, the imperfect and shared Gen Z trauma.
“This EP is about being uncomfortably honest. Having the courage to fall. Say the wrong thing. Do the wrong thing,” says BEXY.
Her debut EP is her first full project alongside independent, indigenous-led Kiwi record label Five AM.
Head of Five AM, Rory Noble, says BEXY is a unique talent and the whole team is excited to see her star rise this summer.
“Everyone needs a bit of BEXY right now. Especially our young people. Her EP is full of road trip worthy tunes and relatable lyrics that listeners can really feel into after a year of hard knocks.”
Christchurch-born BEXY first found success in 2019 with girl band Lacuna, playing at festivals like RnV and Nest Fest and opening for international bands like SKEGGS. After going solo, BEXY’s debut solo single release Wish We Had History, surpassed 4.9 million streams on Spotify alone.
Wear My Wounds Like Armour will be available from Friday on all streaming platforms.
