Shame Shame is a back to basics dirty old rock n’ roll tune. No glitter, no fluff. Just drums, bass, and guitars with attitude! A blues swagger to the likes of The Black Keys and Kaleo throws autotune, synths, and electronic loops right out the window!
Shame Shame rolls out on a simple yet melodic riff that gets caught in your ears like dirt under your nails. Lyrically, Phil sticks to old-school metaphors, conjuring up a story of one’s alter ego turning into the devil, whispering bad advice that quickly turns into emotional suicide. The song’s supernatural themes give a tip of the hat to great poetic songwriters like Johnny Cash and Jim Morrison. A familiar feel that amplifies the storytelling throughout his forthcoming rock EP, to be fully released by late 2022.
“I’m thrilled to be creating from a different place than my norm. Dusting off the old electric guitar and revisiting my rock roots, while lyrically, writing in darker supernatural themes excites me.” - Phil Stoodley
The single was produced and recorded at Jos Lab Studio in Bali with talented local rock legend Ian Stevenson (Wayan Jos). Ian also brought in bandmates from his well-known act Zat Kimia to perform drums and bass on the Shame Shame session.
The Shame Shame music video is a journey through mixed animation, filmed and animated by the very talented Bani Esa. Phil conceptualised an Alice in Wonderland type scenario, walking through a wild and abstract world, bringing the song’s story to life on the screen.
Shame Shame single/video will be released on all platforms 25th February 2022.
