Auckland punk quartet Nuggiez (featuring current and former members of Black Science, Repairs, Shoutin' Preachin' and Reaving) return with reliably rowdy and full-throated new anthem The Creeps, a stridently sarcastic take on living through late capitalism.
The new single is the quartet’s first release with bass player Martin Phillips (Repairs, God Bows To Math) and the band say their track represents the first foray through a new creative portal that opened up when Phillips joined the band in 2019.
Nuggiez cite acts such as Killing Joke and The Minutemen as inspiring certain aspects of the song and say the subject matter and overall tone is intended to conjure up a cathartic yet foreboding sensibility.
Vocalist Drew McCormack on his lyrical contribution:
“The lyrics try to highlight that by never meaningfully addressing our material conditions, society asks the individual to instead ‘grin and bear’ systemic failure, in order to protect capitalism from fundamental reform.”
“As a result, all kinds of people seeking answers are being driven into the arms of grifters in the marketplace and in spiritual & political spheres - ‘the creeps’ who exploit our systemic social chaos for personal gain.”
The Creeps is written and recorded together by the band and mastered by Nich Cunningham.
The Creeps is available on all streaming platforms from Friday 18th February 2022.
