Hannah May's 'Written In The Sea’ Creating Awareness Around Climate Change

01 April 2022 - 0 Comments

Waikato Born Indie folk singer/songwriter Hannah May releases exciting new single Written In The Sea from her soon to be released debut EP. Recorded and mixed by fellow indie artist Tay Oskee and mastered by Paul Blakey, this track is one to be listened to, inspired from her own adventures in nature and with its confronting message about climate change.

With influences from Xavier Rudd, Ziggy Alberts and Sons Of The East, Written In The Sea pairs raw acoustic roots with an earthy edge, making it different from anything you’ve heard, fitting in perfectly with the indie folk music scene right now.

A year and a half on from her last release Lay Me Down, Hannah May leaves her country roots behind, toning down the production and letting her inner musical style and abilities flow. A transition that has taken time, with help from a pandemic, she dives deeper into what drives her as an artist and the message she wants people to hear. Very different from anything she has released before, the brand new track is relaxing and fun whilst the message is crystal clear. Climate Change. She is not “beating around this bush” with her lyrics. “They say where? We can’t see, but it’s written in the mountains, and it’s written in the sea”. This is just the start of May’s new direction with the release of more singles, an EP and an Australian and New Zealand Tour on the horizon.

“We seem to forget how much we rely on the environment for our wellbeing, while it continues to deteriorate in front of our eyes, we live our lives as if all is ok. We have to change our ways. This song is a reminder of that and I hope this inspires people to make a change however small it may be.” Hannah May

“Hannah May is a multi-talented performer and with this release, she is showcasing her immense strengths like never before”. - Music Tour News June 19, 2020
