Growing up in Sheffield in the North of England, and a resident of NZ since the late nineties, the music of Joseph E Harrison reflects his experience of almost forty years as a performer and songwriter, on both sides of the world.
Incorporating loud guitars, feedback, multi-layered vocal harmonies and dark, ambiguous lyrics, Joseph's songs delve into questions of love, regret, betrayal, obsession and insanity.
His most recent release, Blameless is available now on all major streaming services. Listen here.
An album, Therapy for a Cynic is in the works.
Influences include Bowie, Suede, Fields of the Nephilim, Prince and Roxy music.
In addition to his solo projects, Joseph performs as lead singer for Wellington-based rock band, Tower Of Flints. Previous bands include the shoegaze-inspired four-piece, Brave New Void (BNV).
BNV quickly rose to prominence on the local scene, releasing an album, and supporting international acts The Lemonheads and Pop Will Eat Itself.
He is a co-organiser and producer for the Outland Sessions – an annual week-long song writing event attended by musicians from all over New Zealand. His singles, Dirty Footprints, First Words and The Great, Grey In-Between were all recorded at Outland, 2019 - 2022.
