Manifesto is an edgy, suspenseful pop banger with a euphoric EDM beat that pays homage to the ‘true crime’ genre. “It’s a pop-infused horror story,” says Michèle.
“I wanted to create something that depicted a seemingly naive woman getting caught up in a serial killer’s web. Except she’s kind of a bad-ass and he becomes the victim. It shows women can bite back and shouldn’t be viewed as helpless creatures.”
The empowering and powerful track was co-written and co-produced by one of New Zealand’s leading musicians and producers, Devin Abrams (Shapeshifter, Pacific Heights, Drax Project). Sydney-based Liam Quinn (Rita Ora, Delta Goodrem, Theia) co-produced, mixed and mastered the song.
Manifesto is delivered with an equally beguiling video, made by award-winning NZ director Shae Sterling. Through chaotic, rapid movements, illusions and flashbacks, the video is a ‘Euphoria’ inspired depiction of the song’s meaning.
“It shows the killer luring his victims on date nights so that he can claim them as part of his ‘Manifesto’ but his latest victim - me - takes him out before he can get her. She’s a huntress seeking a form of twisted justice,” explains Michèle.
Manifesto is in keeping with Michèle’s penchant for creating spellbinding, dark and edgy pop that takes its inspiration from fantasy intertwined with the mystical. Raised in South Africa and China, Michèle discovered her affinity for music when she was just a child. Now based in Christchurch, she’s been carving out a path in the local pop scene, working with some of the biggest names in the business and establishing herself as an artist who’s fast on the rise!
