Prepare for an onslaught of homegrown music on air and all over the show as the official NZ Music Month of May kicks off this week. This year's events threatens to be the biggest yet, with government organisations including the NZ Music Industry Commission and NZ On Air throwing their weight behind proceedings and radio stations across the nation promising to show unprecedented support for the local music industry.
Highlights of the month will undoubtedly include the b.net radio networks tradtional 100% NZ Music Week, this year scheduled to start on Monday 6 May, and National Radio following suit with their own NZ Music Week from Monday 13 May.
The annual NZ Music Award, The Tuis, will be held at Auckland St James Complex on Friday 10 May, and the same venue will host the monstrous three day True Colours festival to wrap up the month, with the Finn Brothers playing host to guests including Dave Dobbyn on 31 May, a massive all ages gig headlined by Pacifier on 1 June and Flying Nun's 21st Anniversary Gig on 2 June.
The Music Industry Commission will once again conduct a touring music industry seminar season around the main centers throughout NZ Music Month, and have also surredered their website to the cause.
