One of New Zealand’s finest rock exports, Ekko Park, have come storming into 2022 with their brand new single, Breakdown.
Breakdown is exactly what you’d expect
from the band. From the very start it comes roaring out of the speakers full of energy via a killer drum and bass groove and immediately takes you on a whirlwind journey before dropping a totally infectious chorus that will have you signing along
at the top of your voice the next time you catch their potent live show.

Frontman Joe Walsh says of the track; "This song is our Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. This was the first song we finished after NZ's first Covid lockdown. Everyone's dealing with this crazy, surreal, ever changing world and this was me using lyrics as some form of therapy. Clearing out the basement of my brain to try and make sense of the madness. Sometimes it's the most positive people, those who are outwardly happy and seemingly bulletproof who are dealing with the most internal chaos.
Anxiety, Fear, Sadness, Doubt, Shame....all the nastiness that creeps in when you're stuck at home with nothing but your thoughts! But we wanted to play with this. We didn't want the song to be dark or moody. I guess it's a pop punk riff. It's a happy dancy bubble gum wrapper with a nasty surprise inside. It's Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.”
It’s
been quite a ride since Ekko Park released their last full length album, Horizon, in August of 2020. The album featured the ridiculously catchy, up tempo Uh Oh and smash
single All Eyes On Me which featured guest vocalist Grant Nicholas of Welsh indie rock giants
Feeder and received radio play the world over!
Off the strength of the record, Ekko were nominated for Best Rock Artist at the 2021 Aotearoa Music Awards!
The band recently
welcomed new guitarist, Jessie Booth, who is renowned for being part of female rock band She Loves You and is a touring guitarist for Elemeno P.
Breakdown is the lead track from Ekko Park’s
forthcoming
four track EP. Each of the tracks on the release will feature unique artwork from New Zealand tattoo artist, James Dean.
