Tāmaki Makaurau based hip-hop and R&B artist, Gino October is excited to announce the release of his latest collaboration, Love Lost. The track and accompanying music video featuring Cee Blu are out on digital platforms from Friday 22nd April, made possible with the recognition and support of NZ On Air's New Music Single funding round in February, 2022.
The track is unlike anything we’ve heard from either artist before. Love Lost can be described as new age rap, the perfect blend of trap and pop. The pair met after being introduced by a mutual friend; “It was great to work on something so new and relevant with Cee Blu. With her ability and skill as a singer, I always knew that eventually, we’d get to the point of working together on a track.”
Gino found inspiration everywhere in his creation process, but this new sound of guitar-infused trap stemmed from listening to artists such as Internet Money, Gunna, Travis Scott, Kehlani and Roddy Ricch. Both the chorus and verses were written by each artist respectively, leading to a completed track with a truly authentic feel to it. “As soon as LMC sent the beat through I could hear a female vocalist singing the hook. That’s when I recorded my verses and passed the track on to Cee Blu, so that she could identify with my lyrics in her writing process.”

The video was shot across a variety of Auckland City locations with director Tom Grut, who
is known for his work with the likes of Jess B, SWIDT and Raiza Biza. Director of photography, Sash Samaratunga, has also worked extensively with similar artists coming from a background in short films and advertisements. Unlike many of Gino's
previous music videos, Love Lost opts for an acting-based storyline that delves into the use of facial expressions to convey a message that speaks louder than words. “I came up with the concept by drawing inspiration from TV shows like Atlanta and films like Queen & Slim. Other than being a musician, I’ve always wanted to be an actor. Having already done scripted music videos in the past, this time I wanted to work with a concept that was authentic and pushed the boundaries of
what is considered to be a traditional music video.”
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Gino October and his family immigrated to New Zealand at age twelve. Four years later, thanks to his brother’s early recognition, belief and investment in his talent, Gino began producing and recording his own music. In the years that followed he went on to establish his mark on the New Zealand hip-hop and R&B scene. To date, Gino October has released two EPs and a full-length album under Universal Music Group. After fulfilling his contract, he has continued to release music independently, building a growing fanbase across the globe and performing at festivals around New Zealand.
With more music on the horizon, listeners are set to join Gino October for a year of growth in 2022. Love Lost is the first of five singles set to release this year, each to be accompanied by a unique music video. With a selection of demos stashed away, Gino is working to foster and grow his international fanbase before bringing the tracks together to form a cohesive full-length album.
