Channeled Announces 'Channeled II' (Part One) EP - Release Date 6 May

22 April 2022 - 0 Comments

Channeled is excited to share new music with the world. And this time, it’s different. With a more refined and polished sound, Channeled II marks the almost 3 years since Ben Ruegg took this solo project to the world. By early 2020, he was joined by Matt Garratt, Michelle Anderton and Branden Pritchard to bring the music to the stage.

Channeled’s debut album was ground breaking in that the quality of the songwriting and production far exceeded the expectations of those who had never heard of the project before.

“In all, for an album created and produced solely by one person, the recording quality and songwriting is truly incredible. In a few places, theatrical or atmospheric additions are injected, by way of police sirens (song 4, Slow But Steady), or air-raid horns (on song The End). The theatrical edge is bumped further with the addition of interludes and instrumentals, such as Death Knell and Remember, respectively.” – Steve Shyu (Muzic.net.nz)

Following on with the 2020 release of I Heard Penelope Sing, Channeled shifted gears and dipped their toes into other styles instead of staying firmly planted in the rock world. Songs like The Gap Between Thoughts, A Conversation With You and the Is That Glass? provided listeners with a different perspective on what Channeled sounded like. Fan favourites like Inside The Light and the foot stomping Isolation kept audiences engaged and singing along, with the later reaching number 10 in the NZ Hot Ones charts in August of 2020.

Unfortunately in November 2020, the week of the official release of the album, Ben suffered a seizure which caused their release party to get cancelled. The effects of that seizure sent Ben on a spiritual journey which lead him to release two EP’s in 2021. Interpretation and Perception. Not only did the sound shift again, there was a return to the more rock orientated sound with a very soulful and honest feel to it. Both of the title tracks highlight the internalization that was going on within Ben’s head.

But now, with feet firmly planted in 2022 and having recovered from everything, Channeled are back with what could be their biggest release yet. Already, the three songs on Part One of the full length album are getting peoples attention. The sound is rock and does not hold back. Full of catchy riffs and hooks, this is Channeled at their most focused. In fact, you will find out for yourself when you hear the groove of Open Up with its passionate vocal delivery, the huge riff laden track Your Way and the epic finale No More which closes off Part One. Channeled mean business and you can tell it. More importantly though, Ben just wants to have fun and create music he enjoys and wants to share with others. The process of writing this music has been just as fun as all the other times in writing for the band. Just this time, he’s going back to his roots and honouring where it all started.

Channeled II (Part One) is out on all streaming services on the 6th of May along with a video for Open Up.

Channeled II (Part Two) will be released in July, and the whole album will finish off with (Part Three), out 12 August 2022.
