Tamaki Makaurau’s Substax release Linear Shift on 27 May 2022.
Linear Shift is exactly that, a linear evolution which sees the seasoned act widening their musical gamut but also staying true to their focus to produce evocative electronic soul music with a 15 track new album for 2022. The album has been mastered largely by Metropolis Studios, London (8 tracks) and Nick Farrands of Substax (5 tracks). The album artwork is designed by Claudia Gunn of Substax.
Substax are genre bending pioneers of electro soul and breakbeat, renowned both for their downtempo epic downbeat as well as breakbeat influenced club tracks.
The act is the audio duo of producer, Nick Farrands and vocalist/producer Claudia Gunn. Their debut album Electro Soul Plane, now available on streaming services, was originally released (on CD) in 2005 through Sugarlicks Recordings Aotearoa and was critically acclaimed at an underground level.
The album launch for Linear Shift begins with a retro visualiser video for downbeat atmospheric funk track Computer Seeks Computer, followed by a fully produced video for soul-breaks track Fireside being directed by photographer Robert Trathen. Other promotion will include radio plugging and interviews, music media advertising, playlist and sync plugging, social media promotion and live shows in due course.
The album will be released on 27 May 2022 on all major streaming and download platforms via Substax distributor DRM NZ.
