Live Nation in association with Auckland Unlimited, is thrilled to present Elemental Nights 2022 as part of Elemental AKL 2022.

2022’s concert series will showcase a range of musical genres from neo-soul, R&B, funk, indie, hip-hop, folk, to electronica ensuring all musical tastes are satiated.

Elemental Nights’ first line-up announcement features Dope Lemon (AU), Nadia Reid & The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (NZ), BIIGPIIG (Ireland), Oliver Tree (USA), Jungle (UK), Tom Misch (UK), Diggy Dupé & Friends present The Panthers (NZ) and Reb Fountain (NZ) with more artist’s to be confirmed.

Tickets for all shows go on sale at 12pm Friday, May 6 through elementalnights.com & livenation.co.nz

My Live Nation members can secure tickets during the exclusive pre-sale beginning at 12pm Wednesday, May 4.

Auspiciously 2022’s festival launches on Friday, July 22 at the Auckland Town Hall with the highly anticipated performance by artist Dope Lemon. Slinking out of the silky darkness of the midnight hour towards the blissed-out champagne pinks and purples of twilight, Angus Stone returns with his beloved, intrepid Dope Lemon project.

Singer, songwriter and accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Stone released his new album Rose Pink Cadillac in January of this year. Stone said, “The catalyst [for the album] was love. During this time in the world with everything going on, the anarchy of it all. I feel like it’s a good time to share it.”

Dope Lemon last performed their signature mellow sounds to a sell-out crowd in Auckland in August 2019, devotees and new followers will not want to miss this very special show.

Nadia Reid appears with her loyal band alongside a 12-piece string section from the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO), showcasing songs from her critically acclaimed albums Out of My Province, Preservation and Listen To Formation, Look For The Signs in what is sure to be a luminous concert event.

The Guardian said, “Reid is a remarkable talent, assured, clever and a confident singer-songwriter…. devastating youthful wisdom that gives her songs a feeling of lasting profundity”. Reid, who is praised the world over for her intimate, complex song writing, is currently working on her fourth studio album due for release in 2023.

BIIG PIIG has lived a nomadic life – born in Ireland, she spent her formative years in Spain, and she now calls London home. In recent years, BIIG PIIG has risen through London’s art scene, garnering a loyal following for her smoky, sedative take on hip-hop and neo soul which moves fluidly between singing and rapping in English and Spanish. Pitchfork said of 2021’s EP release The Sky Is Bleeding, “The latest EP from the Irish singer is a set of introspective, velvet-crushed balladry, as much a cohesive mood piece as a collection of individual songs.” Biig Piig is definitely an artist to have on your radar.

An internet-based vocalist, producer, writer director and performance artist, Oliver Tree brings a colourful, scooter-loving persona to his indie pop and hip-hop informed dance music. He went viral in 2016 with When I’m Down before releasing his full-length debut the Billboard-charting Ugly Is Beautiful in 2020. Tree’s sophomore album Cowboy Tears arrived in 2022 and hit No. 7 on Billboard’s Alternative Album Chart. From comedy to action sports, mock reality TV drama, to WWF wrestling in his live shows, the world of Oliver Tree is unlike any artist who has come before him.

Jungle is a British electronic music project founded in 2013 by producers Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland.

Jungle have released three studio albums, the Mercury-Prize nominated Jungle (2014), For Ever (2018) and 2021’s soundtrack for summer Loving in Stereo. The British duo emerged post-lockdown delivering a huge soulful disco record for the post-social distancing age, with a life-affirming, dancefloor-igniting, sun-kissed celebration of all the things that make music irresistibly joyful. A Jungle live show is vibrant, empowering a collective feeling of togetherness through their energetic music, visuals, and exuberant choreography.

Tom Misch is a bona fide sensation: 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify and 1 billion streams across his catalogue. He has steadfastly released music on his own label Beyond the Groove, breaking out as a full-fledged star with his acclaimed album Geography, which scored him a cross-generational fanbase that includes Barack Obama. In 2020, Misch followed with the sharp leftfield detour album What Kinda Music, a mostly improvised, beautifully collaborative project with jazz drummer Yussef Dayes. Misch’s Melbourne and Sydney shows sold-out instantly and his Auckland show is bound to follow suite.

Five-time NZ Music Award nominee, 2021 Taite Music Prize winner and 2022 nominee, songwriter Reb Fountain is a consummate recording artist and performer, spell-bounding audiences with her music and artistry alike. Throughout 2020, Reb and her all-star band astounded audiences around the country on her sold-out album release tour; joined Crowded House on their national To the Island tour, performed at Splore and honoured the great Nick Cave at the sold-out Auckland tribute shows of The Boy Next Door.

Reb’s critically acclaimed, Taite nominated album Iris elevates Reb Fountain’s music to new heights, effortlessly combining pop elements with her trademark noir folk-punk sound. With touring plans curtailed earlier this year Reb Fountain welcomes the opportunity to bring Iris to life during Elemental Nights.

Since arriving on the scene with his debut EP K.O.T.I.C (Kids of the City), Diggy Dupé has become a core member of the Auckland hip-hop community. In demand as a feature artist, he’s appeared on many releases including projects by SWIDT, ChoiceVaughan and Church & AP. A 2019 Vodafone NZ Music Awards finalist for ‘Best Hip Hop Act’, Dupé’s inspiration and stories are always about being a central Auckland Polynesian; family, his Niuean heritage, gentrification, and identity are recurring themes in his music.

Diggy Dupé & Friends Present The Panthers, perform songs from The Panthers soundtrack, a six-part drama series about the rise of the activist group Polynesian Panthers in the 1970’s, a powerful melange of 70’s vibes, with modern hip-hop and R&B.

Elemental Nights, now in its third year, is designed, produced and promoted by Live Nation, and has garnered a solid reputation for transforming unique spaces such as churches, community halls and theatres across Auckland with innovative light installations and set design. These spectacular nights are not be missed.

Live Nation New Zealand and Elemental Nights promoter, Renée Hermsen says, “We are incredibly excited to bring international talent back to Aotearoa this winter, alongside a stellar line-up of domestic artists, as part of Elemental AKL. Like previous editions of Elemental Nights, we’ll be showcasing both the artists and Auckland’s iconic venues combining music, light design and excellent food and beverage offerings all to heat up Auckland’s live music scene this July.”

Auckland Unlimited’s Director of Arts, Entertainment and Events, Richard Clarke, says the Elemental Nights concert line-up is the perfect complement to the world-class offerings of arts, beats and eats that make Elemental AKL 2022 so unique.

“Elemental Nights is a key event in the Elemental AKL calendar, and one music fans around the country flock to,” says Richard Clarke.

“It’s a thrill to be able to welcome artists of this calibre back to our stages, and to enjoy the magic of live gigs in some of Auckland’s best-loved venues.”

”Auckland is proud to be one of 31 cities worldwide to be included as a UNESCO City of Music, and Elemental Nights is a fantastic example of how music plays such an important role in Tāmaki Makaurau’s cultural identity.”
