Steve Wells releases heartfelt love song 'Steal The Sun'

27 May 2022 - 0 Comments

Paris-based, Aotearoa artist Steve Wells has released Steal The Sun a love song to his wife, which he finished writing the morning of their wedding.

Following on from Makeshift Heart, released earlier this month, Steal The Sun is the second single from Steve’s upcoming album Songs For Summer Rain (17 June).

Steal the Sun is a cinematic pop-rock gem that rolls along beautifully. It’s a very personal story that strikes many universal chords.

“It was originally composed over a few months as an instrumental,” says Steve, “lyrical inspiration arrived as I prepared to get married. Writing vows meant reflecting on the 14 years we have already shared together, our beautiful daughter and the years to come. I played an acoustic version as a surprise during the wedding ceremony.”

The multi-disciplinary artist says it’s a song of love and hope, singing ‘we could steal the sun, and then make a run for it.’ It’s another exciting offering from a muchly anticipated album.

Steve Wells’ upcoming album Songs For Summer Rain has sweeping, lush production and sonic soundscapes. It is a brooding, cinematic album, sprinkled with glimmers of hope. Inspired by the dramatic landscapes of his African childhood (having grown up in Zambia), mixed with months of covid lockdowns - the self-produced album is something the artist says he’s more than proud of.

Former guitarist in platinum-selling band Fur Patrol, in 2007 Steve Wells took a break from music to pursue life as a photographer - famously taking a portrait of Former Libertines and Baby Shambles lead singer Pete Doherty eating syringes for his personal series ‘A Table’. In 2017 he returned to music as a composer-collaborator for film scores and electro tracks in duo Super8Sonic. Like so many creatives, 2020 inspired Steve to write, produce and release his debut EP, the electro-dance Poolside - and sparked a continuation of solo creativity. Be sure to follow Steve Wells for more updates.
