Bluey Green releases laid back, dreamy single 'Cherry Umbrella'

Mount Maunganui artist Bluey Green has today released his latest single, the chilled-out dreamy track Cherry Umbrella.

Layered with spacious synths, a laid back groove-filled rhythm section and sprinkled with floating saxophone lines, the single dreams of escapism and the desire to take a break from the sometimes overwhelming grind of reality.

Cherry Umbrella started out as me simply reminiscing about tropical island getaways with my wife (which at the time of making this song, were a thing of the past)…..but it became a bit of a more broader song of escapism as a whole, at a time where responsibility had caught up with me in my life big time,” explains Bluey Green.

“The aim was to actually convey that feeling of sipping on a Pina Colada with a loved one, just a little reprieve from the day to day, responsibility and head noise.”

Produced by Merk (Mark Perkins), mixed by Nate Souter of Link Flamingo and mastered by Stuart Hawkes (Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Amy Winehouse), the track has been in the works since its inception in 2020.

“What I love personally about this song is that it has been in the cooker for almost two years and as a band we jammed on it for almost a year before we went into the studio,” said Bluey Green. “It really showed me the importance of patience and really working on a song to get a result that I truly love.”

Bluey Green released his debut, self-titled EP Bluey Green in 2020, which contained the indie-pop-surf-rock singles Morning Sunshine, Roses and Colours.

Morning Sunshine debuted with particular acclaim; championed by Radio Hauraki, the track garnered over 100k views on its music video, aided by catching the heart of kiwi film legend Sam Neill. Watch the video HERE

After an adventurous life of surf and travel, Mount Maunganui’s Mitch Horton turned the craziness of the last couple of years into the catalyst for him to create a musical presence of summery optimism, under the name Bluey Green. His warmth and positive energy that make up the signature indie-pop-surf-rock Bluey Green sound, is a breath of fresh air to a weary world.

Cherry Umbrella is the first of a new batch of releases, set to be released over the coming months. Taking listeners deeper into his genre-straddling blend of indie, chill pop and surf rock as he continues to use his authentic songwriting to further express what it means to be human in 2022.
