311 artists registered, 95,000 votes were cast and 94 talented finalists were selected by their community to play at their local KFC store and celebrate NZ Music Month – local styles.
By all accounts from local fans and KFC store staff, the 94 impressive finalists warmed their crowds and rocked KFC's across the country on the 3rd of May, in the largest simultaneous gig that NZ Music Month, and in fact New Zealand in general, has ever seen!
So for that alone, we think that everyone involved is pretty choice and we want to say a big ups to you for rocking KFC and rocking NZ Music Month – whether you were an entrant, a finalist or a supporter – good on you for sticking your hand up and showing NZ all the incredible talent that we have to offer!
Now as awesome as you all are, there was always going to be one winner to take home the ultimate industry pack worth $15,000 big ones.
Believe us when we say that it wasn't an easy decision. We gave the task to the experts, Mark Kneebone (Chairperson Independent Music New Zealand) and Ashley Page (A&R Manager and Marketing Manager for Australasian Labels Warner Music), who sat down and deliberated over the submitted tracks, and feedback from the performances, then came together and both agreed that the winner of KFC presents Sounds from your Hometown is (feels like there should be a drum-roll here): ELSTON GUN, who performed at the Kent Terrace KFC!
Congratulations to the Elston Gun guys – enjoy your prize and we look forward to seeing great things from you in the future!
And to the rest of the talented New Zealand musicians who got involved - don't think you're off the hook – we hope to continue to see great things from you too!
Thanks again to everyone who got involved with Sounds from your Hometown – it was epic, it was loud and we hope that it will be repeated!
