Admiral Albatross's latest project, S'OK, is about the conscious mind's fight against its own judgments. Inspired by early 2000's indie and alternative rock, the EP was born out of songwriter/vocalist Nigel Martinez' struggle with artistry and was produced to completion with the Bird over a tenuous period of the group's early 20's.
S'OK's first single, U Don't Try, is a chugging anthem carried by walls of guitars that chastise inner demons. To be released with the digital EP, it will also be accompanied with a shadowy video, evoking the subconscious' darker and chaotic side. More Than Animal, the second single, is a softer song. A call-to-arms to unleash our inner potential; transcending the chaos through accepting that we ARE that chaos. To be released on the 15th June with a video inspired by kaleidoscopes (and psychedelic drugs).
Previously performing in pub cover gigs, backyard parties, and a stint as the house band for The Roxy's Star Wars Episode 9 Premiere, this year in August, the Bird will be finally premiering its original music in the Wellington scene for the first-time!
BIO
Admiral Albatross is an art collective from New Zealand that was founded in late 2019. We're an eclectic group of creatives who were brought together by a spirit of free and open collaboration. Enigmatic and sublime, the spirit birthed our uniting philosophy - the Bird. We represent a shared vision but produce art with different intentions. We are united by our name, but there are no constraints on what we make.
Featured on S'OK are Nigel Martinez (vocals, guitars, video), Lucas Ryan (vocals, guitars, mixing, photo editing), Jordan Ross (drums, video), Shaun Finlay-Lintern (guitars), Terry Liu (guitars), Zoe Sutton (synths/samples, photography), and Dylan Fage (art).
