Last Night, the music industry's most prestigious songwriting prize, the APRA Silver Scroll was presented for the 43rd time.
The winner of the 2008 APRA Silver Scroll is OpShop - Jason Kerrison, Bobby Kennedy, Matt Treacy & Clinton Harris for their song, 'One Day'.
This peer voted award is decided by APRA Members, New Zealands songwriters and composers. Hundreds of votes were made and the finalist songs were listened to online thousands of times via www.apra.co.nz.
OpShop richly deserve the honour as they have written a song that has been embraced by the nation. Its a beautiful example of the craft needed to raise a song above another its simple but hugely emotive. says APRA NZ Director, Anthony Healey.
We are extremely proud to showcase all the finalists and all the winners. New Zealand music and especially these songs remain vibrant and original says Healey.
Also last night, APRA in association with RIANZ proudly made another induction to the New Zealand Music Hall Of Fame The Topp Twins.
With their unique brand of music laced with politics and humour, Lynda and Jools occupy a secure place in the NZ heartland, says APRA Writer Director Arthur Baysting. Through their songs, their television shows and their live appearances, the Topps have achieved Kiwi icon status.
