The tunes keep coming from Auckland five piece No Cigar who today release the latest single Say No More from their upcoming debut album Bienvenido out Friday 23 September.
After the runaway success of their first single for 2022 Some Nights which saw radio adds across ZM, Radio Hauraki and The Edge and a peak of #16 on the New Zealand airplay radio chart, No Cigar up the ante once again with Say No More. Touching on the adjustment we have to make when walking into an environment and having to absorb the dynamic of the situation you find yourself in, vocalist and chief songwriter Willy Ferrier explains below:
“I’ve always struggled to walk into a nightclub and start dancing immediately. I’m not sure why as it’s one of my favourite things to do, I just have to warm into it first. Like a strange mating ritual I circle the dance floor, quenching my thirst on a beverage or two. Even when I do reach the dance floor and begin to move, I’m not yet absorbing its energy. But at some point, once I’ve adjusted to the environment and have sufficiently diluted my inhibitions, I become free. The song is about reaching that feeling, that freeness”
With a string of singles out now from their forthcoming debut album, including Some Nights, Holiday, Black Hole and now Say No More, the band are thrilled to be taking their debut album on the road this Spring. Smashing out nine dates across New Zealand, this will be their biggest headline tour yet. With psychedelic undertones and groove laden guitars, No Cigar are masters of storytelling and guaranteed to get your toes tapping and your soul singing.
Beginning in Christchurch on Fri 30 Sept at 12 Bar, followed by U Bar in Dunedin, Yonder in Queenstown and Rhyme x Reason in Wanaka, the band will then head north to play Napier’s Paisley Lounge, Totara Street in Tauranga before wrapping up at Galatos in Auckland. They will also be appearing at Gisborne’s Longline Classic Festival, plus their First Light Food and Wine Festival.
Since the band’s inception in 2019 , the boys have grown a fiercely loyal fanbase while dodging lockdowns, playing sold out shows at Auckland’s Galatos, Tuning Fork, Whammy and Sweat Shop, opening for Mako Road at the iconic Powerstation and playing across the festival circuit including Rhythm and Vines, Outfield Festival and That Weekend. They have already surpassed over 2 million streams on Spotify alone with over 65,000 monthly listeners.
