One of the world’s most hotly anticipated live acts, UK post-punk rising stars Dry Cleaning today announce their debut Australia and New Zealand tour, presented by I OH YOU and Frontier Touring. Having just toured extensively to sold out audiences across the US, Canada, UK and Europe and with headline shows now scheduled throughout December in Auckland, Wellington, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, fans of the art-rockers can expect an utterly encapsulating live spectacle.
With their sophomore record Stumpwork out Friday 21 October via 4AD/Remote Control and two new singles Don’t Press Me and Anna Calls From The Arctic out now, the band’s ambitious and deeply rewarding new work marks them out as one of the most intelligent and exciting acts to come out of the UK. Adding to today’s news, as announced last week Dry Cleaning will feature on the 2022 Meredith Music Festival lineup.
Frontier Members presale begins Monday 29 August (12pm local time), before tickets to the general public go on sale Wednesday 31 August (12pm local time). Tickets via frontiertouring.com/drycleaning.
The South London-based group’s first studio album, New Long Leg – recorded in just two weeks with producer John Parish [PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding] at the iconic Rockfield Studios – became a huge critical and commercial success, reaching #4 in the UK Album Charts and featuring in 2021 ‘Best Of’ polls across the board. Buoyed by its success, Nick Buxton (drums), Tom Dowse (guitar), Lewis Maynard (bass) and Florence Shaw (vocals) have partnered once more with Parish and engineer Joe Jones on their upcoming second record.
The band shot to international notability in 2019 and are best known for Shaw’s use of Sprechgesang (spoken voice), poetic yet unconventional lyrics and post-punk riffs. Rolling Stone describe the band’s first single Scratchcard Lanyard since signing to 4AD as having “all the strange allure of their 2019 output, plus a little extra verve and polish courtesy of PJ Harvey collaborator John Parish.” Other acclaimed singles include Strong Feelings and Unsmart Lady.
Debut track Magic of Meghan came from 2019 EP Sweet Princess, capturing the world’s attention with Shaw’s inspired wordplay. With a second EP titled Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks released in 2019, the London outfit secured inclusions in ‘The NME 100: Essential new artists for 2020’ and ‘DIY Magazine’s Class of 2020’.
With an already strong fanbase down under and rampant support from British media and music lovers alike, Dry Cleaning are expected to have the hottest live music tickets of the Australian and New Zealand summer. Get yours when they go on sale Wednesday 31 August.
