Wise Music Australia (part of the Wise Music Group) is excited to announce a new addition to the team with the appointment of Sydney-based Ben Pierpoint in the role of A&R Manager for Australia and New Zealand.
With a broad and diverse background in the arts, starting at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Ben’s wealth of experience across the industry from theatre, sound design, composition, artist management, operations and logistics, venue management and project management makes him a unique choice for the role at Wise Music where he will be working closely not only with the local roster of contemporary songwriters, but finding new ways to facilitate cross genre opportunities across the broader Wise Music catalogue.
Ben is the director of artist management company Maximillian Brown with a roster of artists including Ngaiire, Jamaica Moana, Gena Rose Bruce, The Dollar Bin Darlings and Wallace, which he will continue to run whilst taking on this new role at Wise Music. Previously Pierpoint worked at Positive Feedback managing Little May and Haiku Hands and he has delivered curatorial work for organisations including The Sydney Fringe Festival and Sydney Festival. This June, Ben was one of two recipients of the Australian Artist Managers’ 2022 Music Passport Program supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Creative Victoria and Sounds Australia.
Managing Director Jane English is thrilled to have Ben join the creative team, saying
“Ben is a creative, passionate, innovated and talented artist manager who remains at all times respectful of his artists’ creativity and vision. We can’t wait to see him bring these traits to his new position as A&R Manager at Wise.”
Ben will work closely with the established creative team at Wise Music including Synch & Creative Manager Cathy Nelson-Williams and Stage & Classical Promotions Manager Catherine Gerrard. The Wise Music Australia roster of superb, handpicked local talent includes contemporary writers Donny Benét, Beks, Harts, Ngaiire, Josh Pyke, Damien Leith and The Beamish Brothers (Jude York, sleepy benjamin) as well as classical/cross genre writers such as William Barton, Ross Edwards, Richard Mills and Graeme Koehne.
Of his new appointment, Ben Pierpoint says “I had not seen moving into A&R on my 2022 bingo card but when the opportunity came up to work in a more engaged capacity with Jane, Cathy, Catherine and the wider Wise team, I couldn’t turn it down. The song is central to our entire industry, without them and their songwriters, all the other elements do not exist. I’m looking forward to digging in and working with all of Wise’s writers to find new and untapped ways to develop their craft and opportunities."
Ben takes on the job from Larry Heath who started with Wise Music Group in 2017 as the Australian operation’s first ever dedicated A&R Manager. Larry is due to depart Wise Music on 16 December.
