Madeline Releases Her Sophomore Single 'The Illawarra'

24 February 2023 - 0 Comments

After her stunning New Zealand Top 40 debut last year; Madeline’s The Illawarra is a triumphant follow-up single that shows more of her vocal depth.

Writing through the eyes of a stranger she met at the Illawarra Hotel, while living in Wollongong, NSW; Madeline tells the story of a young girl's journey to shake off the wound of heartbreak and public humiliation.

Teaming up once again with Wellington producer Jake Stokes, Madeline delivers The Illawarra as a love letter to her beloved friends and the time she spent there; but also to anyone who has tried to dance away the things that have hurt them most.

The Illawarra is filled with soulful vocals, funk-inspired basslines and catchy hooks. It also has unique personal touches throughout, such as an actual recording of Madeline and her friends at the Illawarra Hotel and a rain track to mimic the NSW rainstorms of 2022. This song really transports you to a different place and puts you in the shoes of its protagonist, while you’re still dancing in your living room.
