T.G. Shand shares shimmery new track 'Fatwood'

24 February 2023 - 0 Comments

On Friday 24th February, Otautahi, New Zealand based dream pop artist, T. G. Shand is sneaking in a standalone single Fatwood, before the release of her upcoming EP due out later this year. Fatwood is available on all digital platforms and as a 7” mono lathe-cut vinyl via Bandcamp and selected record stores.

Fatwood is a shimmery, beats driven tune with a lofi lean. Written over a few weeks at the start of summer, the track is playful, featuring jangly guitar rhythms and ethereal vocals. Based on a fire starter a friend made her, it started as a joke track and turned into a mischievous vehicle for the explosive potential in quiet rage. “Written from an angry place in the soup, driven to mischief as an outlet.”

T. G. Shand came to life in 2016. “After Miniatures disbanded, it’s been an outlet for music ideas and trying out guitar and bass.” Annemarie’s shoegaze roots found influences from the likes of Curve, Chapterhouse, Medicine, and equally from modern R&B/hip-hop heroes like Pip Millet and Little Simz.

After a string of successful releases, in late ‘21 the live band formed. They were able to sneak in a successful festival debut at Nest Fest 22’ alongside the likes of Glass Vaults, Marlin’s Dreaming, and Kirin J. Callinan, just prior Covid-19 restrictions that abruptly brought the New Zealand arts sector to a standstill.

Expect to hear more from T. G. Shand in the near future, a four track is on the way for mid 2023.
