THE KIWI HOUSE
With Karl Steven
Sundays at 5pm on Kiwi FM
(from August 30, 2009)
Kiwi FM is proud to announce the arrival of a brand new show. “The Kiwi House” is an hour long programme presented by Karl Steven. Each week Karl talks to a different guest about their favourite New Zealand music – with the guest picking 8-10 songs which are personal favourites, had a big impact upon them, or are attached to a particular memory.
The guests will come from all walks of life - politicians, sports heroes, musicians young and old, as well as TV and film people and other entertainers.
Karl Steven says, “The idea is for the show to be entertaining whether or not one is familiar with the guest (or the music), and to convey a sense of excitement about the songs, as well as using the songs as a 'way in' to the person's life and world”.
First up is Dave Gibson from the band ElemenoP; and he’ll be followed in the weeks to come by guests including Mike Chunn, Tyra Hammond, Tourettes and Tim Shadbolt.
“The Kiwi House” is funded by New Zealand On Air and will go to air on Kiwi FM at 5pm on Sundays from 30 August (with replays at 3pm on Thursdays).
KARL STEVEN
Karl Steven is perhaps best known as the 'skinny white guy' from Supergroove. He has been kicking around the New Zealand music scene for a while now, producing and mixing artists from Tourettes to Bic Runga, composing music for the screen, and lending his harmonica skills to Dalvanuis Prime among others.
Karl also writes about music, and has been known to teach the odd philosophy class (he has a PhD in Ancient Greek and Roman philosophy from Cambridge University). In 1989 he was the proud recipient of a certificate of merit for 'competence in folding up music stands'.
