More than 100 bands from across the country have now signed up to New Zealand's leading R18 National Band Championship, the Battle of the Bands.
The first round kicks off in the capital at the famous Bodega on the 13th October, where The Novelist, Ruski, Circ OD and Matt Mulholland & The Tail Whips will be fighting it out for a spot in the next round. Al's Bar in Christchurch starts their rounds on Wednesday along with the Kings Arms in Auckland, followed by the Kingslander and Stampede. The Waikato region venues of Brewers Bar, Mt. Manganui and Axces in Hamilton kick in towards the end of the month.
Despite the recession and the inevitable impact on sponsorship budgets, the Battle still managed to gain some great support from the likes of Hell Pizza, Jansen, Juice TV and the Rock FM, all helping to ensure a great event.
This year will be the first time that winning bands will be decided by a shared vote between the in-house judging team and the audience, reflecting the need for bands to not only play well but engage the crowds and demonstrate their professionalism. Given the caliber of the majority of entered bands this will not be a problem!
The competition is open to all musical genres, the only restriction being that all band members must be over 18 years of age. So this is a great opportunity for newly formed or upcoming bands to test their readiness in a live play off and for the more seasoned players to demonstrate why they should be named as the Nation's Battle Champion.
Additional venue slots have been reserved to allow for late entries to compete. Registration at the Battle's web site www.battleofthebands.co.nz, Entry costs just $60. The winning band will receive a host of goodies including a spanking brand new top class Allen & Heath mixing desk, professional recording time, live appearances, musical equipment and more.
Music fans will enjoy some great entertainment and with multiple bands playing throughout the evening for just $10 at the door, these events will be a real recession buster. Music fans who register at the web site will also be in to win free tickets for the final and VIP entrance to the After Final Party.
