Soundtracked by his recently released single Pressūre, Samuel Gaskin releases a video montage wrapping up the Reckōning: Te Waiata Paihere Wairua series; the multisensory celebration of Indigenous joy and intercultural exploration into indigeneity and ancestry, showcasing and elevating Indigenous songwriters and dismantling outdated ideas of identity.
Filmed and put together by PRIDE Productions, the Pressūre video intertwines the track’s message of love and hope with footage from the whole Reckōning journey, from rehearsals in an old tram shed on the beach to its debut at Hamer Hall and beyond. "You could say this clip has been 4 years in the making. It’s hard not to cry watching it for me because it reminds me of all the work we’ve put in to bring this whole project to life. The sacrifices both us and our ancestors have made to come to this very moment. Where we can share work that centres and uplifts our communities whilst acknowledging the injustices we’ve had to face to get here and the fact that we manage to shine regardless. I’m so grateful to be able to be a part of the healing of myself and my people," - says Samuel Gaskin
"Following Samuel Gaskin & the Reckoning journey from the very beginning has really allowed our team at PRIDE productions to witness the magnitude of effect in empowering independent artists through their stories. Seeing all of Sam & the cast's efforts and investment into their craft has been such a rewarding experience as it really goes to show the power of persistence in the pursuit of passion." - Andrew Liu, Pride Productions
Produced by Samuel Gaskin and Dean Tuza, Pressūre is a gentle reminder that we all experience the hopelessness of hard times, and found itself added to Apple Music’s New Music Daily and New In Pop, and premiered by FROOTY. The final part in the Reckōning releases,
previous singles Reckōning and Rain were added to Double J, RTR FM, MTV Upload and Spotify editorial playlists Blak Australia and Deadly Beats and received support and airplay from Triple J, Koori Radio, RRR, JOY FM, and SYN.
