Waiheke based folk pop artist Mahoney Harris is pleased to release her new single Going the Distance.
“This song subject matter is about the challenges of a long distance relationship, but I wanted to make it wistful and playful.” Explains Mahoney. “I was inspired by the likes of 60’s female pop artists such as Françoise Hardy and Astrud Gilberto.”
Mahoney enlisted longtime friend and collaborator Wayne Bell to produce the track, with Oliver Harmer adding his mastering finesse.
The song begins with soft acoustic guitar and a peart, plucked violin riff, then waxes and wanes with soaring strings and Mahoney’s ethereal but poised vocals highlighting the song’s theme. A sweeping and lush instrumental interlude carries the song to its final verse and conclusion.
Going the Distance follows Mahoney’s previous singles, I Don’t Have to Move From Here the countrified reminiscence Band in Town and the sparse folk ballad The Shifting of the Light. Her 2014 album We Didn’t Feel Alone received high praise from local music media. Mahoney is currently working on more releases with Wayne Bell, culminating in a future album.
