The 2023 winners of the Auckland Regional SmokeFree RockQuest, Fan Club, have today dropped their new single Westbound - a nostalgic, end of summer anthem of love, loss and longing.

Westbound was written on the westbound train to Swanson in Tamaki Makaurau and is all about reminiscing about someone you love, who is no longer good for you. With a driving beat, epic guitar riffs and hook-laden melodies, it’s also the perfect road tripping tune.
After coming runner up in A.J. Hackett Bungy’s inaugural Thrash More competition - which aims to celebrate young homegrown musical talent - Fan Club are celebrating the special Leap Day release of Westbound with a ‘band bungy’ from Auckland’s Harbour Bridge. They’ve also invited local music aficionado Cam Mansel along for the ride and together they’ll face their fears and trust the masters of those who leap: “I don’t mind falling, if you’re the one who’s catching me.”
Made possible by NZ On Air Music, which selected the track back for their November round of New Music Single funding, this is Fan Club’s second single off of their upcoming EP, which will be released later this year. The track was produced by Andrew Isdale.
Fan Club’s Emma Wagner (16), Caleb Young (18), Tilly Wells (16) and Thomas Christie (18) are an up-and-coming high school indie-rock band from Tamaki Makaurau. Their original sound is a product of their edgy guitar, tight rhythm and soulful, sometimes belty vocals. In September 2023, they teamed up with Nirvana/Foo Fighters producer Barrett Jones, to mix and master their 4th track, No Caller ID. Their 5th release, Westbound, was made possible by a grant from NZ on Air which the band received in November 2023.
