Christian Dimick (Recitals, Avant-Glass, Desperate Models & god knows what else) is widely accepted as one of our country’s most expressive guitar players, and perhaps our most underrated. He’ll often be hidden away in his studio, working on new music or paintings in secret. You’ll have seen this gentle giant play before in a number of groups, though Awning is the band you’ll catch him playing with these days. The indie quartet have produced a new offering, the three song EP; Gold Star.
These songs are saturated in reverb, more so than anything previously heard from the Tāmaki Makaurau based artist. The guitar tracks could've been recorded in a storm drain, beyond wet, even for a guitarist who performed on Recitals’ expansive debut LP Orbit I.
To execute, Dimick called in his favourite collaborators from over the years, including percussionist Riley Noonan (who played drums in Desperate Models alongside Dimick from high school age) as well as Wellington music stalwarts Eli Chamberlain (Eli Superflyy, Miss Cressida) & Baxter Perry (Same Name Confusion, Stink).
