One of Aotearoa’s most successful music artists, Hollie Smith, will showcase her visual art in an exhibition called ‘It’s Not Music’ this June at artist FLOX’s gallery in Auckland.
Over the past twenty years Hollie has cemented herself as a musician, songwriter, producer, an accomplished collaborator, and a beloved voice in the local music scene. Alongside four #1 debuting solo albums, Hollie has scooped numerous awards, accolades, and acclaim, and seen her voice become part of many iconic moments in New Zealand music history.
In recent years Hollie has found the time to explore other creative pursuits, including visual arts.
“I have always experimented with visual art outside of my musical career, exploring different themes which appeal to me and have incorporated some of that work into the design and art that has promoted my music too. However, over the last few years I have spent more time developing this aspect of my artistic output.
No one other than close family and friends have seen my art and so it felt like the time to display more widely for the first time.
I like playing around with different ideas but love the human form which for this body of work I have been focusing on and using my preferred medium of oil paints.
I also came across some of grandfathers photography slides from which I’ve chosen some favourites to show. He was the President of the Dunedin Photography Association.”
Hollie Smith will be exhibiting at Eyes On Fire Gallery from the 6th - 27th of June 2024.
Eyes on Fire is the brainchild of FLOX, one of NZ’s most recognised contemporary visual artist’s of today.
