Indie-Rockers Fan Club Release Longtime Fan Favourite, 'Rough'

Indie-rock/pop band Fan Club has released their much-anticipated new single, Rough a heartfelt and intense track that has been a staple of their electrifying live shows.

Following the release of Westbound (thanks to NZ on Air) in February, Rough marks the third and final single from Fan Club’s upcoming debut EP. This powerful track, released today, showcases the band’s evolving sound and emotional depth.

Rough delves into themes of abuse and manipulation in a relationship. The song starts with a haunting piano melody, setting a tone of vulnerability and hurt, before building to a dramatic crescendo with crashing drums, thrashing guitars, and a driving bassline. The raw and emotive vocals capture pain, anger, and determination, making Rough a standout track. The single was produced by Andrew Isdale at Big Fan and Tom Broome at his studio, who have both captured the intensity and authenticity of the band’s performance.

Fan Club, a four-piece band from Auckland, has been making waves in the local indie-rock scene. They were the 2023 winners of the Auckland Regional Final of the SmokeFree RockQuest and placed second in the AJ Hackett Live More, Fear Less Competition. Known for their dynamic and engaging live performances, they have opened for notable acts such as Ekko Park, Double Parked, Coast Arcade, and recently Borderline at The Tuning Fork, where they were joined by special guest Frankie Venter and Spencer Coyle.

The band is set to headline Stoned HQ’s Double Release Party at The Tuning Fork on June 1st, 2024. This all-ages event will also feature performances by Pat’s Cave, Rèver, and Velveteen Shakes, promising to be a must-attend show for fans of indie rock. Tickets can be found on Moshtix here.
