Ōtautahi, New Zealand-based dream pop artist T. G. Shand is thrilled to announce her latest single release, The Cheese. The track is available on all digital platforms from today.
The Cheese is a slower-paced, meandering track built around a driving trip-hop style beat and bass line. Overlaid with wonky guitar chords, the track leaves plenty of space for darker vocals and quirky percussive elements to shine through. The song is a poem about that feeling when someone or a situation seems suspiciously good but there's an unease surrounding it. The album art encapsulates this sentiment, depicting a piece of glittering, golden cheese in a mousetrap on a beach at night.
T. G. Shand, the musical project of Annemarie Duff, has continued to evolve since its inception in 2016. Known for her ethereal soundscapes and dream pop flair, Annemarie's influences range from shoegaze legends like Curve and Chapterhouse to modern R&B and hip-hop heroes like Pip Millet and Little Simz.
Since her last release, T.G. Shand has performed at Nostalgia Festival, was awarded Favourite EP / Mixtape at the 2023 SRN Awards, and has received funding through the February New Music Single funding round for her upcoming track Scenes, which she is currently hard at work on.
Expect to hear a lot more from T. G. Shand in 2024, with a string of up-coming single releases in the works. The band is also booked to open for Blonde Redhead when they tour New Zealand in June.
