Record attempt at New Zealand’s
Largest Ukulele Orchestra

Christchurch Town Hall Complex – Friday 28 May 2010

CALLING ALL UKULELE PLAYERS AND FANS OF THE EXPONENTS

CJ's Musicworks, Kala Ukuleles and CHARTFEST 2010 (www.chartfest.co.nz) are partnering together in gathering ukulele players and fans of The Exponents alike in an attempt to set a new NZ record for the LARGEST UKULELE ORCHESTRA this May during the annual NZ Music Month Festival  CHARTFEST 2010, May 28 in the Christchurch Town Hall Complex.

"With 'Why Does Love Do This To Me?' by The Exponents being the unofficial national anthem, and with it being NZ Music Month, we thought it only fair that this be the song performed en mass by hundreds of passionate bonsai guitarists,'' said festival organizer Jeff Fulton, who is spear-heading this record event. Ukulele Orchestras are popping up all over the city, so we invite them all to the Town Hall to join in.''

The official World Record is held by New Zealand, with 1120 people strumming in unison at the NZ Ukulele festival on November 21, 2009.

"We will attempt to beat this record at CHARTFEST in the James Hay Theatre at 3.45pm on Friday, May 28,'' Fulton said.

Prior to the record attempt, Christchurch's primary, intermediate and secondary school Ukulele Orchestras are invited to choose and rehearse an iconic New Zealand song (http://christchurchcitylibraries.com/Music/Lists/APRA100/), then perform it at the James Hay from 1pm on Friday, May 28, 2010.

The winning groups will be in to win one of three Ukulele Prize Packs worth over $300 each thanks to CJ's Musicworks, Lyn McAllister Music and Kala Ukuleles.

Check www.chartfest.co.nz for the admission price, the ukulele music score, and other information.
