CUSTARD BEAR Win Band Team Search Competition

For New Zealand Music Month 2010, CHART in association with CPIT and CJ’s Musicworks has been on the hunt for Christchurch’s best high school band AND music team.

The search was been widened this year to not only find which school band has the most talented musicians but to discover which band has the best team around them. Budding managers, journalists, photographers/directors, poster designers/graphic artists and online gurus competed to win a mountain of great prizes to be displayed in the Town Hall at CHARTFEST on Friday 28 May.

CUSTARD BEAR (www.myspace.com/custardbear) from Christchurch Boys High School took out the media/journalist, artwork and Grand Prize categories impressing the judges with their songwriting, originality, musicality and win the Grand Prize of a Yamaha Stagepas 300 P.A system courtesy of CJ’s Musicworks and the opening slot on the CPIT ZM Main Stage at CHARTFEST 2010 7pm, Friday 28 May.

CHART Manager Jeff Fulton spoke on behalf of the CHART team of judges, "for the first year of this new competition, the judges were impressed by how these school bands managed to organise themselves into a team and create a Myspace profile. A team of managers, graphic designers, media and online is the future of the music industry and its great to see it being taken up at school level".

As well as opening Christchurch's annual NZ Music Month Festival and the Yamaha Stagepas 300 P.A system, the winners take awaya professionally recorded, mixed and mastered single courtesy of The Sitting Room and Tandem VoiceBooth Studio, a live performance at a Tally Ho Presents All Ages show and the trophy and title of Christchurch’s best school band team.
