Kiwi artist Cassie Henderson releases her new single, Seconds To Midnight (11:59), out today on all platforms. The track is the lead single from her upcoming EP, The Yellow Chapter, the second instalment in her trilogy The Chronicles of a Heart Broken. Henderson is part of the next-wave pop vanguard, bringing a fresh perspective to the genre with her honest storytelling and emotive vocals.
Seconds To Midnight (11:59) showcases Henderson's storytelling prowess, blending it with edgy 80's synths to create a pop anthem that captures the frenetic energy of a New Year's Eve gone wrong. The song explores themes of disappointment, betrayal, and the frantic need to appear fine, all set against the backdrop of a countdown to midnight.
Produced by Joe Faris (Daily J, Ezra Vine), who also helmed Henderson's The Pink Chapter EP, and mastered by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound (Dua Lipa, Renee Rapp, Miley Cyrus), Seconds To Midnight (11:59) marks a new chapter in Henderson's evolving sound. The track's pulsating beats and brutally honest lyrics make it a standout addition to playlists ranging from empowering anthems to cathartic breakup songs.
Henderson's previous single Whatever dominated New Zealand radio for 12 consecutive weeks in 2023, a feat unmatched by any Kiwi female artist since Lorde in 2017, making it one of the most played local songs that year. This success earned her a nomination for Breakthrough Single of the Year at the 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards, solidifying her status as one of New Zealand's rising musical talents.
