Rising NZ Pop artist Blake is set to release her highly anticipated second EP, I’m Doing Fine!, on September 5th. This new project features five tracks that delve deep into Blake's reflections on self and artistic development over the past year and a half.
Worst Critic, a standout track on the EP, lends its lyrics to the project's title. Blake explains that "I’m Doing Fine! captures the duality of her current state - both a humorous, automatic response and a genuine expression of uncertainty and optimism. The title reflects the relatable feeling of telling ourselves that everything will work out, even when we haven’t fully figured it out." The EP's artwork, featuring Blake carrying a dog in a backpack, reflects her time house-sitting in London this year. Encapsulating the blend of chaos and carefree-ness of her life at this time.
A significant milestone in Blake's creative journey, I’m Doing Fine! marks her transition to taking on the role of lead producer for the project. This shift allowed her to develop a more sustainable future as an artist by drastically reducing costs and facilitating a cohesive body of work.
“This was the only way I could see myself having a sustainable future as an artist,” Blake explains. “By taking the reins on production, I've been able to build confidence in my taste and reduced expenses. This has been incredibly empowering and has expanded my collaboration choices and processes.”
Fans can look forward to a collection of tracks that resonate with authenticity and showcase Blake’s growth as both a songwriter and producer. Her ability to create catchy, deep pop songs without compromising on substance is where her talent shines the most.
I’m Doing Fine! will be available on all major streaming platforms on September 5th. Don’t miss out on what is sure to be a defining moment in Blake’s burgeoning career.
