Ella Minehan teams up with Altitude to deliver a new Drum n Bass Classic: 'Bullet'

15 November 2024 - 0 Comments

Following up their 2023 collaboration DrowningElla Minehan and Altitude are back with Bullet — a smooth blend of liquid drum and bass with a punchy dancefloor vibe. The track has a powerful, driving rhythm balanced by melodic layers; a perfect mix of depth and energy. Bullet is a metaphor for that moment in a relationship where you have to sacrifice your heart for the sake of your head. It details the strength that comes in acknowledging when something is no longer serving you; crooning to the other that by parting ways, you are both “dodging a bullet”.

The track was written by Ella Minehan and produced by Aaron Smith, and was engineered by Ben Hollamby. It was recorded in Auckland, and made with the support of NZ On Air. The single is being released and published through European record label, High Tea.

Bullet is followed by a moody visualiser, shot in Ella and Aaron’s hometown of Ōtautahi, as the duo were inspired by the scenic beauty of the South Island landscape. ‘The record is bittersweet and beautiful; we wanted to reflect this in the video, which is why we shot outside in key landmarks of Ōtautahi; Governors Bay, Cashmere Hills and Pink Lady Rooftop Bar in the Central City. These iconic locations provided the perfect backdrop to reflect the cinematic and turbulent nature of the record; calm, beautiful contrasts to the turmoil of the lyrics.’ A key element of the video’s artistic nature lay in the unique use of projections, meant to further reflect the distance within the lyrics, and Ōtautahi. The video was directed by Sam Emerson of Offline Collective.

Ella Minehan is one of Aotearoa's young rising artists. After taking the NZ pop landscape by storm since her debut 2 years ago, amassing hundreds of thousands of streams across streaming platforms and strong chart and radio success in New Zealand. Her latest single Read Receipts debuted at #3 on the New Zealand singles charts - she is ready to continue expanding her catalogue. Ella is renowned for her versatility and capacity to shift from the world of pop into the world of dance, and this record further cements this idea. After a successful guest performance at Rhythm and Vines where she performed drum and bass collaboration Drowning - with Mylen and Altitude - for a crowd 9,000 strong, she and Altitude have teamed up to bring the world of drum and bass a new classic.

Altitude, also known as Aaron Smith, is a Christchurch-based producer and DJ. Although only launching his “Altitude” project in 2023, he is no stranger to the scene, playing a range of shows and festivals across the country since 2017. Diving deep into 2023, you saw Altitude’s debut release Drowning. This debut showcased his own emotional and technical style of production. Since releasing Drowning, Altitude has really showcased his production skills with the release of You Did and What It Feels Like, as well as a debut EP on Celsius Records.
